Original Text and Music by John Henry
Newman, John B. Dykes,

Arr: William C. Horsley

Initially, this began as an arrangement solely for Lead Kindly Light, as a duet for Cello and Piano. A few years ago I received a request from a friend if I had an arrangement that could be played for violin, cello, and piano. I was already in the process on the piano of combining Lead Kindly Light with Brightly Beams, and had the outline of the piece in place to orchestrate for the trio. I felt inspired by the theme of “Light” and being led to safety when we are upon dark trials. Our Father is merciful as we are “lost”, and it is by Him that we are brought back to “shore.” I arranged this when I myself was going through a dark time of mental health challenges. It felt symbolic of my trial towards finding a path back to peace. Therefore, the intent is to inspire hope when we feel lost or are in desperate need of love and safety.
