This song was written while sitting in a room of the Omaha Childrens’ Hospital with my daughter several years after we discovered she was born with a birth-defect resulting the in the loss of nearly 2/3 of her brain. While in the hospital, she survived several brain surgeries and other medical procedures. During this process, I became close to the mother of small boy who was also having a hard time fighting for his life. Unfortunately, The Lord took this young child home. This young mother was not of our faith, and this song was written as a comfort for her.  

Many years later, as I stood at the side of my mother’s casket, who had been taken from this earth at the early age of 61, I realized that this song was written for myself as well as this young mother. In fact, it applies to all who have lost a loved one. I hope in some small way that all who sing, or hear this song will be comforted and find strength in knowing that the Lord truly is there, and that He never leaves us alone.
